The mechanism of limb segment reactive hyperemia in man.

چکیده
The roles of vasodilator metabolites and/or reduced local intra-arteriolar pressure in producing the reactive hyperemia which follows the suclden release of arterial occlusion were studied. It was found that slight increases of metabolic activity during the period of occlusion increased the reactive hyperemia considerably. Maintenance of intra-arteriolar pi'essure during arterial occlusion depressed the resultant mictive hyperemia. It was concluded that both factors contribute to the reactive hyperemia. The blood flow "debt" incurred during arterial occlusion was almost invariably "overpaid" during the reactive hyperemia period.

The static limit of arterial blood pressure in the dog's hind limb.
When the femoral artery is occluded in the anesthetized clog, the pressure in the distal segment usually declines progressively and approaches a static limit asymptotically. This static limit is independent of the original degree of vasomotor tone except under extreme conditions. It is concluded that the rapid supervention of reactive hyperemia in the dog vitiates the static limit as an index o...

one subject with isolated, fixed coronary obstruction. Three subjects with variant angina had short episodes of ischemic ST-segment elevation that lasted 20-100 seconds. Thallium scintigrams demonstrated excess uptake in regions judged to be ischemic by angiographic and electrocardiographic criteria. Two subjects, one with variant angina and the other with a fixed coronary lesion, had prolonged...
متن کاملEffect of cooling and of smoking tobacco upon the blood flow of reactive hyperemia of the foot.
Tobacco smoking and body cooling have been shown to decrease the "resting" blood flow to the foot. The present study was designed to determine whether either of these (2 stimuli also affects the increased blood flow that follows a period of ischemia (reactive hyperemia). Blood flows to the foot were measured in subjects with and without vascular disease by the venous occlusion, water plethysmog...

متن کاملThe effects of short-term venous congestion on forearm venous volume and reactive hyperemia blood flow in human subjects.
Congestive heart failure is associated with a reduction in limb venous volume at an effective venous pressure of 30 mm Hg (VV[30]). Further, an attenuated arteriolar dilation in response to a metabolic stimulus has been demonstrated. It was the purpose of this study to determine to what extent the chronic elevation in venous pressure seen in heart failure might explain these abnormalities of th...
